This is true, but that should not effect the apt-key syntax, and the man
page for apt-key has no /working/ example. That was why I was asking
here.

Ask there.
And be ignored, forums suck. BTDT, several times now.

Gene, that's not remotely a Debian problem. Raspbian's a derivative of
Debian but things like the organisation of their package repository
are completely distinct, so while some of the more general issues
which might affect multiple Debian derivatives (e.g. both Raspbian and
the OS on your Rock board) might be relevant here I'm afraid that one
isn't.
Are you saying the apt-key syntax has been changed? Thats what I'm
looking for since the man page doesn't contain an example line to demo
the syntax. And those options in the synopsis line just serve to add
impenetrable fog.

This is the warning line I'm getting from an apt update.
W: GPG error: https://packagecloud.io wheezy InRelease: The following
signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available:
NO_PUBKEY B62D900077D1B979

First off it is a jessie install, but it names the missing key. And I
found it in sources.list.d/an accessory program I've not been able to
use. I think its .list file best if nuked.
Thanks.

This is a common problem and just means that the key that is signing the
repository you are using has expired or is missing. You can check the
keys that apt is using with "apt-key list".

See [1] for more information.
